Klimafit

Development and introduction of a climate management concept for sports clubs with training, climate accounting and a programme of measures

Project duration: 2022-2024
Commissioned by: Climate Innovation Fund, City of Stuttgart

In collaboration with the Sportvereinigung Feuerbach 1883 e. V., the Sportkreis Stuttgart e.V. and the Schwaben section of the DAV e.V., KATE is developing a low-threshold climate management concept for sports clubs in the Stuttgart region.

Sports activities (training times, competitions or major events) also generate GHG emissions in a variety of ways that should not be neglected.

Sports clubs embody an important role as social multipliers that reach a group of people far beyond their actual members - more than 255,000 members in Stuttgart's sports clubs. In the context of their role as multipliers, they can therefore contribute to raising awareness of climate change issues and at the same time provide and drive forward impetus for more climate protection.

The ‘Klimafit’ project therefore utilises this potential of sports clubs. In five work phases, KATE is working with the project partners to develop the climate management concept and the associated online platform for learning, evaluation and data collection measures. The project is rounded off with an awareness-raising campaign by a climate and communication team and the climathlon as the final event to ensure that the measures are permanently integrated into the club structures.

01

Climate management concept for sports clubs

In the first phase of the project, a climate management concept is being developed that is customised to the needs of sports clubs.
The concept will be developed and trialled together with pilot associations.

Training programmes for climate guides

03

Following the development of the climate management concept, low-threshold training programmes for volunteer climate managers, so-called ‘climate pilots’, will be created to ensure their qualification as part of the project.

Climate portal

Based on the climate management concept developed and the training concept, a digital climate portal is being configured for the Stuttgart clubs. This contains training materials, guidelines and recommendations for action, as well as data collection and analysis tools for climate accounting.

04

Awareness-raising & climathlon

An ongoing awareness-raising campaign and the final ‘Klimathlon’ event raise the visibility of the project and the project topics across the board.
